Marathon Preparations and Tips!

Guideline:
Many people simply put on an pair of old running shoes that they've found lying around the house and begin thinking that they can manage a couple of miles for their first marathon. In most times, this is not going to happen. You need to practice beforehand, or you will likely phase out just after hitting the fifth kilometer mark.

One of the first tricks of a successful marathon is to discover your pace and timing. You must discover your own pace before you can run an actual marathon. Keep in mind that this is one of the most important things in running. When you practice, you might also like working in the evening or early morning when it is cooler and not as hot. You can also run in front of the TV on a treadmill if that is what suits you best. Remember, you have to practice in scheduled increments, or else after a small break you will find yourself not able to catch up on your old style.

Having the right equipments is also an important factor in the art of running. This not only consists of finding comfortable shoes and wearing comfortable clothes, but also working with the proper tools. If you're trying to find your pace and time, make sure you have a proper watch or device that has the ability to time your laps. If you want to measure your optimal heart rate, then a heart beat measuring device is also essential to your preparation. If you like to listen to music when you run, an iPod or other media devices will also be a good thing to use while running.

To motivate yourself and keep yourself on track, a set goal is preferred in most cases. With set goals, you will be motivated constantly. For those of you who know how painful long marathon sometimes can be, you will know the strong temptation to quit in the middle. If you have a set goal, you will try to strive for it and the likelihood of you quitting will be decreased considerably. Start up with an accomplish-able goal, and as you become more durable, start challenging yourself with more harder and tougher goals. If you set goals and write them down, after a month or two when you look back, you will notice how much you have improved.

If you follow these guidelines a few months beforehand, then a marathon will definitely not be a tough challenge to you. Just remember, always have a set of reachable but not easy goals. Most importantly, you must also know your own pace and timing. This is the core to running, so if you know your pace and timing, "impossible is nothing", "just do it"! Beat the marathon!
